America's membership in the World Trade Organization has been anything but beneficial. Not only have millions of jobs been lost since the U.S. entered the international trading organization, but national interests have been undermined over and over again due to WTO decisions that usurp even the nation's cherished constitution.

Sounds like a lot of not so great decisions continue to pay dividends, for other countries, as they sream yipee for all the free money. Like Soph said globalisation has arrived, and is here to stay, better learn to play the game, then trying to get around it.

Hello to all my newsvine friends. Palin's Uncle, it's good to see you here. Soph, and Jo. Good day to you. I came on to see what the vine was saying about Bin Laden, but found Jo on the board.
The WTO does need to revise policy across the board I think.

All my best friends. The WTO does need to revise policy across the board I think.
We have here a Yank or two, a couple of Brits and a Palestinian. We could form our own international organisation perhaps.

It's not just the WTO, it's the whole concept of "free-market capitalism" that's the problem. If one bothers to look at the data, free-marketism turns out to be one of the worst economic faux pas' ever contructed. In fact, there is not one nation that has ever become wealthy thru free-marketism. (If you're thinking of chiming in with China at this point, think again. China is one of the most protectionist economies on the planet.) For those interested, noted South Korean economist Ha-Joon Chang does a great job of summarizing the problems in his book "23 Things They Don't Tell You About Captialism".

a great explanation of both the WTO and globalization is an article published by an Egyptian newspaper titled the-global-economy's-corporate-crime-wave. Here is a great view of today's new global economy, something never fathomed by the Bretton woods conference where much of the WTO originated at. Best said governments are still national while corporations are now global and multinational, thus creating a loop holed global tax system paying little or no tax since there is no direct origin. This is done via their subsidiaries being labeled as separate entities of developing countries.
another great article Jo thanks for the post!!!

The WTO has been cheating America forever. They let China slip by with the most obvious treachary and underhanded practices in trading but when America tries to do something it's labeled as either unfair or "Protectsionist". The organization does nothing but pad the backs of developing nations at the expense of rich nations.

Good morning orange. I think perhaps China is a whole situation that stands alone, but thank you for posting.

For some reason, the US and Canada seem to tussle with each other in the WTO courts often, be it on lumber wood, wool, wheat or corn, etc...but there are times when they team up, such as against intellectual property rights against China or other nations that don't enforce copyright laws.
The idea of systems such as nation states, citizenship and global corporations and free/controlled trade has to be continuously redefined in a growing borderless world, and the WTO is an important forum that plays a small part in that, both positive and negative.
