The key to our relationship. Yes, it is founded on a deep emotional connection, by sentiment and ties of people and culture. But the reason it thrives, the reason why this is such a natural partnership, is because it advances our common interests and shared values

Here we have to leaders, with different political backgrounds fighting for a common aim. The statement in my opinion shows, how that special relationship between The United Kingdom and The United States of America holds good today. It further shows Barack Obama’s commitment to world peace, and why in 2012 he will still be in The White House

Excellent piece Jo. I think that this shows that although at times the relationship may seem a but rocky it always comes right in the end. Clipped to my column and BritsRock

I especially like this because it shows two thoughtful leaders who, each in his own right, refuse to be "slavish" to another government's policies, yet ultimately agree and strive for the same goal. Very nice.

A gracious good morning to you ladies, And agree with both comments. The relationship between the two nation, is a natural in the simplest form conceived, and have shared a positive connection, and affiliation for over a century. The bond is strong, like brothers who who sometimes may bicker, and argue, but they are the first to step in if the other needs help, and back each other up when needed. I believe the relationship, is stronger with the United Kingdom, then any other country, that we deal with, and a shame that other nations can't have the association, we have with Britain, if we all got along as well, the world would be in a much better place.

It reminded us that when the United States and Britain stand together, our people and people around the world can become more secure and more prosperous.

All very well and good, just make sure to keep sending over more "Dr Who", "Top Gear" and comedies.

The image of the United States, took a gigantic hit under the Bush 8 years, with kidnapping, torture, and invading another country, and Obama has been trying to regain ground lost, to rebuild the good will that we enjoyed prier to that time. There is never anything wrong with continued conversation between nations, and the skepticism, Obama faces, after Bush's cowboy diplomacy, our way or the highway course, is understandingly more difficult to over come, and some trusts are built more slowly, and have to be proved that is not what the United States is about, and that takes time.

    Thank you Stev G.

President Obama exudes confidence to a troubled world. This is why he will remain in The White House post 2012.

NONE of your Leaders in Europe thinks much of the Obama's. It is what it is :(

Just because you keep repeating something does not make it fact. Maybe you would like to provide some evidence for that assertion FM

Soph I'm working on it. :)

Good. You have 25 countries to get something from, as none of the leaders in Europe have time for him it shouldn't take you long to come up with a couple of examples! LOL

That wasn't Brazil's leaders and it wasn't huge. It was a group of protesters (300 or so) that turned violent and made the news. They were protesting US/UN involvement in Libya. But, if we're gonna with a nation's citizens (as opposed to your original statement about a nations leaders) then I'll see your Brazilian protest and raise you an Irish celebration.

FYI - Brazil is not in Europe

    that too

Free Mason. The President is believed to have angered the European leaders by insisting on delaying a joint press conference until after he had chaired a meeting of the UN Security Council

And such is the power of President Obama, that he can do it.

FM. Compare and contrast Bush with the French and then Obama with the French and admit you are being a tad disingenuous.

I don't get it, FM. You are bouncing all over this seed, it almost seems as if you want Europeans to hate the American president.

We went through that; and it wasn't pretty.

Free Mason, being this seed is with are relationship with Britain our greatest Allie, and your talking about our economy. Your ideology is from the republican side and differs with others on this seed and that is a good thing. So we can discuss those differences, but it should be how it affects our relationship with Britian, and not shotgunned all over the place.

i watched the tv coverage in Ireland yesterday then London today, i think the security today was way over the top, yesterday was better but still effective, i think it would have been better if they took a small chance and met more people, but still it was good to see the State visit
