It has been said by Liberals, that the Conservatives do not have a lock on patriotism, well as we go into the Independence Day weekend, I see none of them putting forth their patriotic ideals, and their thoughts about what it means to live in a country founded on those patriotic ideals. They seem to think that we should give up those ideals, that have worked well for a couple hundred years, and look to globalization principles to solve all our problems here in the United States.

I was looking at the 4th of July plans for a friend of mine. She said look on the internet to find out more. I found this. I asked myself this question. Who at this time is trying to ruin America?

The Day America won our Independence From a Small Government Theocracy.
The Citizens of the United States of America have a right to applaud themselves for having given to mankind examples of an enlarged and liberal policy: a policy worthy of imitation. All possess alike liberty of conscience and immunities of citizenship It is now no more that toleration is spoken of, as if it was by the indulgence of one class of people, that another enjoyed the exercise of their inherent natural rights. For happily the Government of the United States, which gives to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance requires only that they who live under its protection should demean themselves as good citizens, in giving it on all occasions their effectual support. -- George Washington, August, 1790

Hi Jo, I just think its a shame that this day of all days should be treated like this. We are all Americans, and this is an attempt to spoil our national pride.
God Blessd America, and happy Independence Day weekend to all.

It isn't the Liberals who are ruining America! "It's ALL of them!!!" It's Democrats, Republicans, Liberals, Conservatives, Tea-Partiers, Preachers, Theists, Left and Right Wingers are all self-ordained self-serving criminals. The oppositions of forces have nearly torn this Nation into a thousand pieces! I fear, "We ain't seen nothin' yet!"
Thanks, Jo. I need something like this every morning, to get my blood pressure up to where it ought to be. (I have a LOW blood pressure problem) Have a super Holiday weekend!

"The rising race are all republicans. We were educated in royalism; no wonder, if some of us retain that idolatry still. Our young people are educated in republicanism; an apostasy from that to royalism is unprecedented and impossible." --Thomas Jefferson to James Madison, 1789.

Hi Jo!!! Thanks for posting this. Interesting find.
Sad really. The conservatives are acting like (and this is not an original thought of mine... I am borrowing it from bloggers everywhere) an abusive ex-significant other. "If I can't have him/her... no one can!" They spread lies about our lack of patriotism, are willing to sink the economy all because they didn't win.

"Monarchy, to be sure, is now defeated,... yet the spirit is not done away. The same party (referring to "the conservative - ex-Loyalist, controlled" Party) takes now what they deem the next best ground, the consolidation of the government; the giving to the federal member of the government, by unlimited constructions of the Constitution, a control over all the functions of the States, and the concentration of all power ultimately at Washington." --Thomas Jefferson to William Short, 1825.

Unfortunately, yes. I honestly believe that principally, morally, ethically, and economically------it's beyond repair!!! Nothing short of a revolution to return us to our founding principles could possibly have any positive effect. It deeply saddens me to even have to express that feeling!

I like Americans, all this in fighting and hating of one another, makes it so much better for some people. I know that an established American business is bought by a Muslim small operator every hour on average at the moment. From my point of view, long let it last. Happy 4th people.

There is an ever-growing tendency among way too many, to demand moremoremore, and throw tantrums when told to pay for it all, or that we can't afford it all. That's the biggest danger to the nation, and I fear it's irreversible. In its worst form, it means millionaires bitching about "unfair" taxes, while demanding their Social Security checks and more Medicare bennies.

You think America will rip herself apart?
There does seem to be a positive correlation between violent revolts and a shrinking middle class...

“Independence day”? It means so many things to me, it is hard to list them all, but here are the top reasons the day is very special.
It stands for hard won freedoms, and a people who were willing to sacrifice their life to keep those freedoms free, a day when we can celebrate our flag and constitution knowing they both represent the greatest nation on earth.
A day for reflection on just what America stands for and why, what the Stars and Stripes represent our heritage and our future both as a nation and a people.
We stand with an open hand of friendship to the world and a closed fist to those who would take our freedoms away.
America, may she always stand proud and strong, Old Glory, may it always fly high representing the standard for the world to follow, the Constitution, my it always stay true to its founding and represent for the rights of the people.

According to a new poll by Marist, more than a quarter of Americans couldn’t correctly identify the country from which the United States declared its independence. While 74 percent correctly named Great Britain, 20 percent said they weren’t sure and six percent named other countries. In the South, 32 percent of respondents either responded incorrectly or weren’t sure. The poll comes on the heels of test scores that showed few American students gaining proficiency in U.S. history, a problem presidential candidate Rick Santorum blamed on the “conscious effort” by “the left” to keep Americans uninformed.
Yeah, Santorum, lots of liberals down there in Dixie. Blame progressives for Rick Scott, Scott Walker, and Chris Christie cutting education budgets while giving fat cat millionaires tax breaks. I think not.

If you would like to see just how many people really know what our flag stands for, ask them what the Red, White and Blue and the stars represent.
Maybe one out of ten can tell you….maybe, it is a shame that a people who claim the right to the freedoms we have don’t even know how they got those freedoms.
Many want to change the constitution to read the way they want it to in order to change America to be what they want it to be, not understanding that every time the constitution is changed, that change makes the entire instrument read different.
The 4th of July is no holiday, it is a sad joke as are many archaic practices held dear by those who refuse change. The example of immigration is a fine one. Neither of the "parties" have sought justice for their country or these immigrants. Both "parties" have contented themselves to undermine the value of "liberty" by denying it to as many as possible citizens and migrants alike. It is a dark joke that the politicians who would tear at their sleeves in the name of "patriotism" who most easily draw a tear to their eye are statistically the least to have ever served in harms way. It is showmanship that wins the day for "patriots" the "i care more than you do crowd" such a farce.

"The flames kindled on the Fourth of July, 1776, have spread over too much of the globe to be extinguished by the feeble engines of despotism; on the contrary, they will consume these engines and all who work them." --Thomas Jefferson to John Adams, 1821.
"May [our Declaration of Independence] be to the world, what I believe it will be (to some parts sooner, to others later, but finally to all), the signal of arousing men to burst the chains under which monkish ignorance and superstition had persuaded them to bind themselves, and to assume the blessings and security of self-government... All eyes are opened, or opening, to the rights of man." --Thomas Jefferson to Roger C. Weightman, 1826.

. Liberals, want to, rewrite out our Constitution administratively (Not legislatively), and decide which laws to enforce, and which ones to not enforce.
Seems like the red side is the only one wanting to change the constitution, and amendments, if I remember right, but why should tryth get in the way of a good story.

Jo.ex royal.navy Hi Stev. I think some people are afraid of change
Good morning and always good to see you and they are Jo, it is about their safe zone, they like their ducks in a row, and resent, any intrusion, that effects their world, where they are forced to make a change, even if it is a betterment for them, they still have to make a change, and they hate it.

What ...that I find it interesting that another Brit (Soph) injects themselves into American politics interests me ? Why would that puzzle you?
Would it not interest you if an American was involving themselves in British politics?
You have nothing to gain from how we govern ourselves...Yet You and Soph INJECT yourselves into our political system and PICK SIDES! I just wonder WHY? What do you hope to gain?
But I notice you never really answered my question ..Now did you?
For what it is worth, I care about America, and the people that live there
Then you go on to talk about France... Not really an answer now was it?
Jim
It may be a shock to you, but the U.S. is the remaining superpower left in the world. We have the biggest military, the biggest economy and, because of all that, the biggest impact on the rest of the world of ANY other nation or probably group of nations, in the world.
Other countries and their citizens take a great deal of interest in our politics, our economy and our government in general.
Well Dave
Other countries and their citizens take a great deal of interest in our politics, our economy and our government in general.
And this seed applies how? And the first comment of this seed........
I was looking at the 4th of July plans for a friend of mine. She said look on the internet to find out more. I found this. I asked myself this question. Who at this time is trying to ruin America?
Sounds more like involvement than interest...
I have friends all over the world. I join them in their celebrations, I have stood shoulder to shoulder with them in very difficult circumstances. Yes, I am very interested in American politics, but then again, I am also interested in Middle Eastern politics also. Like you I have a perfect right to seed and comment on this site. Indeed so does Soph 0571. Where you say We have nothing to gain from how you govern yourselves, I would take issue. Unless of course you were to ring fence your country, stay within it, never come out again. Rather like Soviet Russia was. Perhaps you might ask yourself this. Or better go and find out. How much does America spend in the UK every year, how much does the UK spend in America each year. How much do we rely on each other beyond trade, for political support on a global basis? Once you have started to accept that The United States is in fact a part of a world economy, with trading partners and allies, and not just a segregated block of land, you might start to realise that how you govern yourselves really is important to the rest of the world. Here in the UK we have political commentators that are American, hey we even have John McEnroe doing the commentary for the Tennis on television from Wimbledon. So, please stop being so aggressive here, and look at your country’s bold and honourable association in a global situation rather than as an introspective closed society.

Jo.ex
Please don't misunderstand me... I fully understand that the UK and the USA are long standing allies and I have great respect for your government and your people...
My position is that You and Soph are injecting yourselves in our politics by TAKING SIDES in our internal Politics!
In a way attempting to influence how we govern ourselves and I simply don't believe you should... No more than I should attempt in influence elections for the Conservative side of British politics...
I don't live there and to attempt to direct more influence to one political side is IMHO none of my damn business! But that is just my opinion. You from your statement believe that you have some right to attempt to influence election out comes in my country! Not so much with this seed.... I am speaking in general...OK!
And please understand I am not saying you should not have your opinion and be able to express it... And Please remember the original question?
Might I ask what a "ex royal.navy" person really cares about America's Independence Day?
Please have a great day!

Jim44, everyone as you stated, has a right to their own opinion, and I believe they have a perfect right to comment or take sides on the politics of this country as every single person does on the vine. The vine is world wide, and we are free to comment on any thing or any countries politics, or even seed on any subject, we all chose to. If you look at past seeds of Jo.ex, she comments on many things but gets one or two detractors every time she comments on American politics. Choosing sides is a natural thing to do, when you go to a baseball game, you don't cheer for both sides, you pick out one of the two and cheer for them and support that team. I as many other enjoy jo.ex's political seeds, and get a different take from a different direction, when they get involved, and welcome them to comment and seed more, don't mean to offend as you don't also, this is just my opinion, but many others share those feelings also, and hope not only they continue, but increase their production, to further our pleasure.

Well said ...And I hope I made myself clear I have no problem with them...Really! I asked a very simple and pointed question...WHY?
BUT....Here's something to think about!
Ya ever seen a Seed from either of them about British POLITICS? Why only American Politics? Ever even wonder? .
Never another Subject.. Always American politics
.Just saying! I mean this is an International site, and one might think they would want to know our opinion of politics in their country and seed articles to get our input into politics in their country! Yea seen that ? I mean even once?
Is there no news in England... Nothing worth talking about?
I would think that the problems with Muslims and Sharia Law and many not wanting to assimilate... would be a problem ... Not what our POLITICIANS are doing..
Or the times when Muslims say things like this...This is Great Britain TODAY... and their concern is America...

WAKE UP!
And if it were happening here...would you be on News Vine Seeding about another COUNTRY?
France....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j372uC30lyg
Yea lets follow EUROPE!
As I said, just something to think about!
My position is that You and Soph are injecting yourselves in our politics by TAKING SIDES in our internal Politics!
There was a saying I heard many years ago that expressed a similarity about the U.S. economy. It was something like, "When the U.S. sneezes, the world catches the flu."
We have seen OUR economy go to hell in a hand basket under eight years of the Bush administration and a GOP that seems to have learned nothing from the experience. That economic mess had an adverse effect on the rest of the world as well and continues to hamper the world economic recovery.
I would think it odd if someone from another country didn't have, not only an interest in, but a strong opinion about our politics in the U.S. They are probably as worried as those of us here in the U.S. that a political party here might do something stupid like, block the raising of the debt ceiling or some other equally idiotic move that could plunge the world back into yet another economic depression.
All of that is only about the direct economic impact of U.S. politics on the world. Add to that the uses made of the U.S. military around the world and the potential as well as the obvious actual effect that it has on the stability of other parts of the world and you can see at once why everyone around the world would have an interest and an opinion about what our government will do next.

Jim 44. I like people who come out and say what they think, and I appreciate your well mannered approach. I don’t think I take sides so much as initiate seeds and articles that might prompt a good debate. Of course, I have an opinion, on what I seed and the articles I write. I am also open to be convinced my opinion might be wrong. But if you look at my column, I hope you might see I don’t force issues or my opinion. Other than on subjects that might be considered as of humanitarian or of multilateral interest. Once again I thank you for your comment, and would like to leave you with this thought. The power of The United States of America is such, informed people should take a serious interest in her domestic politics. Failure to understand them, will cause a greater misunderstanding of the bigger picture. I hope you therefore understand why, I am very interested in what might happen next. I need to know how your domestic political system works, so I can understand your international system. The two are inextricably linked.

Yep I am sure you would have...
But its kind of funny I never said anything about taking "his side" (President Obama ?) ...now DID I ? As a matter of fact, if you review my comments I never even said what side you were supporting (smiles) .... But thank You for clarifying it for us ...
Jo.ex
Your comment is well said and much respected... I guess my point to you would be, if in fact your intentions are to better understand Americans than you might do so with a open mind and Please look at BOTH PARTIES with a eye that sees their good and bad points and not focus only on the Right but also look to the Left!
Its good for us Americans to have others look at our politics, but only IMHO if they are objective... And see both sides of our coin... To pick sides takes on a partisan feel and is not really any help, because your opinion is seen as tainted ...
After reading your reply, I give you the benefit of the doubt an believe your purpose... Now ...
Unsolicited advice from an American Conservative.... You want creditability with the Right in America... Here on the Vine...
When the Right is wrong ... Point it out ... We can take it....
But to have creditability ... When the Left is wrong you have to point that out also ...
You could have a unique ability to facilitate Vine members of the Right and Left to come together and talk ...but only if you are seen as impartial ...
Just a thought...
Thank You for a civil and interesting conversation... Your comment voted UP ...

Jim44. Thank you for the points you make. I do try to understand all points of view, and I have to credit you with a very mature approach to our exchange. I must point out to you, that one of my best real world friends, is a girl from South Carolina and a staunch Republican. I also have a very good close real world friend who is a democrat from Philadelphia. We used to work together last year in The United Kingdom. The funny thing is this, both women were politically diametrically opposed, but as Americans working overseas, the had each other’s back. I miss the banter between us. I am sending you a FR. its up to you what you do with it.

I have some degree of difficulty taking seriously the ranting of one of these "My country right or wrong" people.
The support these people gave the Bush administration while he and his croniesmade such a joke of the Constitution, and they have the kind of chutzpah to cast stones at ANYONE else is just astounding. Where were they while Bush trashed the Constitution by authorizing wiretapping without a warrant, torturing prisoners, lieing us into an unnecessary war and doing all this in the name of "Patriotism"?
If that is the sort of actions that these people call "patriotic ideals, and their thoughts about what it means to live in a country founded on those patriotic ideals" then let me say that actions like that are NOT the "patriotic ideals", that our country was founded on.

Another "liberals bad, conservatives good" seed.
Let me tell you who has completely ruined the American experience for me. I come from a multi-generational TRUE conservative family. I am no longer a conservative. Why? Because true conservatism is dead, and the GOP killed it.
The modern GOP movement is nothing like it was 30 or 40 years ago. Most people who call themselves conservatives now are woefully misinformed about what that means. I'm not even going to bother to go into detail about it because it will make no difference. I just find it ironic that many liberals now are acting more like conservatives did back in the 60's, and modern conservatives are acting like fascists.
As for globalization, the Bush administration in 8 years gave us the highest trade deficits in U.S. history - over $7 trillion - which resulted in 2.7 million U.S. manufacturing jobs lost. So skip the lecture on how great conservatives are for the country.
