Media watchdog Ofcom has turned down a complaint from convicted sex offender Gary Glitter about a television mockumentary that portrayed his execution for child sex offences.

The show, called The Execution of Gary Glitter, was set in an imagined version of the United Kingdom which had reintroduced capital punishment for serious sexual offences against children.

Ofcom found in view of Gadd's "well-publicised reputation in relation to child sex offences" there was "likely to be little scope for additional damage to his reputation

Hi Lov and good morning (L.T.no C ), People need to realise that their actions cause reacts, by other people and his despicable deeds warrant everything that can be thrown at him and it would still not be enough. What he did is not only disgusting but affront to descent people every where, and he got away with it with out a satisfying retribution to fit his crime, and he is lucky to be alive, as the mockumentary showed.

Hi EO, I think he kind of lost that right when he did what he did. I also think he continues to be a danger to young people. So, needs to be kept in the public eye. Good morning, and thanks for your comment.

IMO Jo it is a difficult one. He has served his time ergo he should be allowed to be rehabilitated in peace? But at the same time, he was a national icon. You get caught doing something so bad, you will have to take the knocks I am afraid. I think a lot of people felt very badly let down by him

Hi Soph. I think a lot of people felt very badly let down by him

Yes, his victims, his friends, his fan base all were let down. But he is still IMO a danger to young people. He left the UK and wentr on to continue with his crimes in another country. He let Britain down there. Thanks for your comment, have a good day :)

Good morning British friends.

Parody is protected speech in the US, which it should be so long as it's not libelous, (and unlike corporate political donations).

I know that libel is defined differently in the UK, but is parody protected speech there? Considering some of the comedies that get over here, it would certainly seem so. If so, Glitter will just have to take his lumps, and the judge's decision is correct, imo.

Hi good friend Soph.

Indeed; and the more the deviants and jerk politicos are offended, the better for society. Derision is more potent than anger.

Wow. They've turned off the "edit his post for n:nn minutes" feature. The last one closed just as I though of something to add.

Derision ... anger. Which is why the ancient Greeks put a satyr play (from which we get 'satire') after each set of three tragedies. The chance to poke fun at society or government and get a laugh doing it eased the gloom of the previous presentations.

Hi Jo. You're welcome. And thank you. Early morning here, so I'm off to the "hamster wheel" in a few minutes, but I'll check back this evening.

[checks for typos since there isn't any going back for fixes. this is worse than Soph's bubblegum problem; wonder if it's connected?]
